Planet South Bank would like to share details of two local opportunities in our area:
The first is at the community orchard on Scarcroft Green:
Wassailing, tree decorating and solstice party on Thursday December 21st 3.30-4.30pm.
Laura Potts writes, ‘As it gets dark towards midwinter, we’ll bring lights and gather to make merry for good harvests next year.Come and decorate our trees with stars – make some with materials provided or bring some you’ve already made – paper, wool and plant material only (no plastic or glass please). Join a wassail procession round the trees, before some feasting and drinking together. Bring songs, drums, hot drinks, tasty snacks, friends and lanterns for a warm appley glow.
The second is a invitation from the small group of volunteers who maintain the flower beds near the Bishy Road shops.
They have contacted Planet South Bank asking if we know if anyone who can help them out from time to time.
As well as help with gardening, they’d love to hear from anyone who can do occasional litter picking and watering in the summer. Please contact Anthony on 07858 145129 if you can help.
Anthony writes ‘We currently have a group of around four of us who look after its maintenance, with some support, in terms of a base and supply of water, from Beppe Lombardo at Trinacria. We are keen to expand the group, so that we can share out the tasks of weeding, watering, pruning and tidying up and, of course, litter picking’.
This sounds like a lovely opportunity for anyone wanting to get more involved in our local area.
Warmest wishes for the festive season from all of us at Planet South Bank.
