Planet South Bank at the York Festival of Ideas

A York Festival of Ideas event, hosted by Planet South Bank – Thursday 11 June, online, 6.00 to 67.00pm

Thursday 11 June, 6.00 to 7pm, online: Imagining Thrutopias: How We Made It Through. You may have heard about our community creative writing project How We Made It Through – local people imagining a hopeful future for our part of York. We are thrilled to have been accepted into this year’s Festival of Ideas, and we’ll be presenting the story of the project and anthology, as well as introducing the concept of thrutopia fiction and celebrating this grassroots initiative.

Hear from Rupert Read, creator of the concept of Thrutopia; learn about the radical intentions behind the publication and its design, print and distribution of the anthology; enjoy short readings from contributors (poetry and prose); and view some of the illustrations included in the anthology.

Additional invitation:

If you would like to try out some thrutopia writing:

A few of us in Planet South Bank are interested in collectively writing a poem to be read out together at dawn on 21 June – the summer solstice, the longest day. The theme of the poem will be agreed by us together, but it’s likely to include thrutopian elements of hope, light, nature and community.

We’d love you to join us, for the writing workshop, 7.00pm Sunday 14 June, at a location in the South Bank area, and / or the reading at dawn on Sunday 21 June, near the Millennium Bridge. You don’t have to come to both!, for example if dawn isn’t your thing.

And of course, no prior experience of writing poetry is required.

If you’re interested please e-mail laurabok1980@googlemail.com and we’ll send you details as they are finalised.
