October has been sunny and lovely so far – so we’re still gardening! Do call in to help out with ‘putting the plot to bed’ for the winter. Tomorrow (Sunday) from 2-3pm.

written by Paul Burbridge and Jonathan Bidgood
An island in the South Pacific has a problem. It’s hollow.
Anxiety levels are rising in a North American boardroom. Eve’s garden is bursting with next door’s rubbish. Even the ducks have relocated… they’re in Bangladesh.
From the four corners of the earth come colourful, inter-connecting stories of humanity living with the wild, unpredictable effects of climate change.
Scientists, farmers, oil magnates, climate warriors, prophets, mothers, journalists and others just like you and me – we’re all in the mix and hungry for a recipe of hope. In the struggle over power, some sound the warming bell, some blow hot and cold, while others make a pudding of the planet.
Vivid, sharp and deliciously entertaining, BAKED ALASKA serves up the realities of climate change with flair and clarity about the temperatures involved.
In the high-energy, ‘seriously funny’ style for which Riding Lights is well known, BAKED ALASKA is something we can all look forward to… unless we do something about it.
Extra-ordinary theatre for these extraordinary times.

Scores of community owned energy companies have been set up across the UK in recent years, everywhere from Cornwall via rural Oxfordshire and suburban Manchester to the Scottish islands. Our aim is to establish such a company in York.
Onshore wind has the highest potential for generation in York, but since the recent planning policy changes by Government this is not a viable prospect in the foreseeable future. So we are now looking to partner with local organisations to install solar panels on suitable roofs across the City of York area.
Our aim is to establish a company which would be owned, supported and controlled by community shareholders. This company would raise investment, obtain all necessary planning permissions, and commission the solar installations. A substantial portion of the profit would then be distributed for community projects, with the remainder paid to the investors. For more information about us and our work to date please see our website at
www.yorkcommunityenergy.org.uk.
On Saturday September 12th we will be holding an afternoon conference about community energy in York.
The conference is free to attend and open to everyone but we ask that you book via the eventbrite link below:
We’re taking part in this year’s Open Gardens, organised by Edible York.
We’ll be ‘open’ from 2-4pm on Saturday (11th July) – not that we ever really close! Come and see how the soft fruits are doing (here’s a clue – they’re doing amazing things!) and our new bug hotel.
You’re welcome to drop in for a chat, or have a bit of a dig and pull a few weeds, if the mood takes you.
On Sunday 7 June, 11am – 3pm, South Bank front gardens will be converted into a treasure trove of goodies.
Turn out the things you don’t need – clothes, gadgets, furniture, toys … and see your street turned into a swap-and-share event!
Meet your neighbours, take the tour round and pick up some hidden gems.
To register your address, contact Leah at leahmosaic@btinternet.com. £1 contribution to Planet South Bank.
