Climate Cafe, this Thursday 28 September, 7pm to 8.30pm

Our third event in York Environment Week is joining with York Climate Cafe. Free of charge to attend, a Climate Cafe is a chance to share thoughts and feelings about the climate situation without being told what to do about it or what to think or feel about it. Refreshments provided. Someone once said after one previous Cafe, “Nothing’s changed, but I feel so much better!”

Getting to know Nun Ings

Have you ever walked along the river past Millennium Bridge down towards Bishopthorpe? How about wandering up towards the Knavesmire from the river, stopping to admire the hay meadows and the occasional baby rabbit? If so, you’ve walked along Nun Ings!

This piece of land, between Bishopthorpe Road and the Ouse (map) is important to many South Bank residents. Local organisers have set up the Friends of Nun Ings (FONI) to make sure this valuable piece of York’s green belt is represented.

As part of this, FONI are surveying those who use the space to find out the views of the local community. Take part here or scan the QR code below: https://forms.gle/6VCiAHuj4m64b3Fr6

Taking part will help FONI to assess how important Nun Ings is to local people, and understand how the views of the wider community, beyond FONI membership, can be represented.

Find out more about FONI on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100089615226917

Save the date: next Street-re-Cycle, Sunday 24 September

Now in its ninth year! – your local opportunity to clear out clutter and meet folk in your community too. Be part of a ‘trail’ of local addresses, for people to come and buy/swap/take away the things you no longer need.

Maybe you’ll start putting things bit by bit over the next few weeks, getting things ready for the day? Or maybe you’ll plan a weekend beforehand for a big clear-out? Either way, it’s a great chance to ‘walk more lightly on the earth’ and to pass your stuff on to a good home.

We’ll send out an invitation nearer the time to sign up; watch this space.

Street-re-Cycle will take part during York Environment Week, a city-wide opportunity to get more informed, connect to like-minded people and discover the wonderful things already going on within our city. See https://yorkenvironmentweek.org.uk/ for more details.

Climate Café, this Wednesday 19 July, in Rowntree Park

Planet South Bank is pleased to be supporting York Climate Café’s next event, in Rowntree Park, 7pm this Wednesday 19 July.

It’s free to take part, and everyone is welcome. Register here https://www.eventbrite.com/e/york-climate-cafe-outdoor-edition-tickets-663220850417

York Climate Café writes: “July’s Climate Café will take place outdoors, (we have previously met indoors) so please be prepared for the weather! We plan to provide a comfortable place to sit and some hot drinks and snacks but we would be grateful if you could bring yourself something to sit on (or perhaps a folding chair) and it would be helpful if you could bring your own mug. Please meet us outside the park café in front of the dovecote at 7pm.”

New to the idea of a Climate Café? Well, ever felt you’d like to talk about how you think and feel about the climate crisis but don’t have the chance amongst friends and family? A climate cafe is a safe, facilitated space to share your experience and to draw strength from knowing you’re not alone.

If you love nature, and are concerned about the climate and biodiversity crisis, a Climate Café is a chance to voice those feelings and to talk with others. You won’t be told what to believe or what to do. Someone once said after attending a Climate Café: “Nothing’s changed, but I feel so much better!”
