Planet South Bank is offering two events in the programme for York Environment Festival 2026.

On Sunday 4th October, 12 noon to 4pm, we’ll be running our regular Street-re-Cycle.

Joining in is simple. If you live in South Bank, register your house with Planet South Bank info@planetsouthbank.org.uk and put anything that you’d like to recycle at the front of your house. There’ll be a trail of addresses for people to visit through the day. This is a great opportunity to get rid of things that you don’t need, but can’t think what to do with – books, toys, clothes, DIY bits and pieces, etc. You can offer your stuff for free, or sell them.

The more people who sign up, especially if they’re on the same street, the more visitors they get, so talk to your neighbours to get them signed up too – everyone loves a good clear-out!

On Saturday 31st October and Sunday 1st November, there will be an art exhibition at Southlands Methodist Church. Island South Bank and the Good Swamp look at the once-and-future swamps of South Bank; during prehistoric times, we were surrounded by wetlands that we moved through and used for resources (fishing, reed-cutting, etc.), and sea-level rises means that the wetlands will return. Come and walk through the installation, and find out more. NB Timings are different for Saturday (11-4) and Sunday (12.30-4), due to the church service.
